Construction spending during March was estimated at a seasonally adjusted annual rate of $808.1 billion, 0.1 percent above the revised February estimate of $807.3 billion. The March figure is 6 percent above the March 2011 estimate of $762.6 billion, according to the U.S. Census Bureau of the Department of Commerce.
Residential construction was at a seasonally adjusted annual rate of $244.1 billion in March, 0.7 percent above the revised February estimate of $242.5 billion.

Construction spending rose 1.4 percent in August to a seasonally adjusted annual rate of $799.1 billion compared with July’s estimate of $788.3 billion, according to the U.S. Census Bureau of the Dept. of Commerce. The August figure also is 0.9 percent above the August 2010 estimate of $791.7 billion.
Residential construction was at a seasonally adjusted annual rate of $237.8 billion in August, 0.7 percent above the revised July estimate of $236.2 billion.

Sales of new single-family houses in August 2011 declined 2.3 percent in August compared with July to a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 295,000 units. However, new home sales increased 6.1 percent compared with a year earlier, the Census Bureau reported this week.
The median sales price of new houses sold in August was $209,100; the average sales price was $246,000. The seasonally adjusted estimate of new houses for sale at the end of August was 162,000, representing a 6.6-month supply at the current sales rate.

Construction spending during December declined 2.5 percent to a seasonally adjusted annual rate of $787.9 billion compared with November’s estimate of $807.8 billion, the U.S. Census Bureau and the Dept. of Commerce reported yesterday. The December figure is 6.4 percent below the December 2009 estimate of $841.8 billion. The value of construction in 2010 was $814.2 billion, 10.3 percent below the $907.8 billion spent in 2009.
Residential construction was at a seasonally adjusted annual rate of $226.4 billion in December, 4.1 percent below the revised November estimate of $236.1 billion. Residential construction in 2010 was $241.4 billion, 1.7 percent below the 2009 figure of $245.6 billion.
